My husband and I started Prefer Pets in 2006 on an afternoon drive to Victory Park in Pasadena CA, to spend a lovely Saturday with our 2 pekes, Button and ShoSho. On our way there, our boy Button escaped from the carrier that we had bought at a pet box store and proceed to play with us by running around on the floor of the car, ducking under the car seats, and finally wedging himself behind the brake pedal (Button being a tiny 3 months old at the time). Luckily, we were able to stop the car without any injury. This is when we knew we need to have a better carrier to travel safely with our 2 fur-kids.
From our first carriers, original duffel and original backpack, created with features and functions that we wished we had on that day, we have persistently evolve the designs of our bags based on feedbacks and pressure points from real customers and from our own journeys with Button and ShoSho as they grew older. Every Prefer Pets product that we make, it is with the thought of what we would want ourselves in term of mindful designs, quality material & construction, and customer service when we were buying pet products for Button and ShoSho.
Today, we proudly remain a family business and are still based in Southern California, and while our little boy and little girl are no longer with us, we are committed to continue making quality travel carriers for pets and the people who loves them, for enjoying life’s journey with their own Buttons and ShoShos.
I am an elderly woman who transported my dog on a 5 1/2 hour flight after going through quaranteen proceedures to be moved to Hawaii. I had not seen my 15 lb dog for 3 months and he is terrified of being in enclosed areas. I only had 1 day to introduce the medium size pet duffel to him and pray he would stay in it without tearing it to pieces. I was able to get him in within about an hour using treats and then zipped him in petting him until He fell asleep in it. The next day was the flight and he even allowed me to carry him in a front backpack position and was completely fine with it. I was extremely pleased with the duffel, plenty of room, sturdy with out being heavy, fit almost completely under the plane seat and my dog was comfortable and at ease during the flight.
This pet duffel is nothing short of AMAZING!!! I purchased it for airline travel and it is SO, SO perfect. It’s incredibly convenient – and comfortable. Our dog, who is very nervous, feels super secure and safe in the bag and actually prefers to stay in it during the flight rather than come out and sit on my lap. I have traveled successfully!
I have two cats that hate duffels. I had to get them to the vet and could not face yet another duffel struggle, chase around the house, plaintive wailing, etc. I thought maybe soft-sided would work better and after days of research, I bought two different ones, put them out in areas where the cats like to sleep. They have completely ignored the other duffel. One of them crawled into this one and fell asleep within the first hour. Then the other, more dominant one found it and has adopted it as his new house – he sleeps in it, but also lounges, heads out, looking around. Clearly he is not going to share. I am having to order another one so they each have their own. It is very sturdy, well made, nicely padded carrying straps. I am so relieved to see my guys voluntarily going into a duffel.
I have purchased 2 travel bags from a different manufacturer and one was too small and the other was too big. This Natuvalle 6-in-1 carrier backpack, small was the perfect size for my 6lb ShihTzu puppy. There was enough room for him to stand and turn around easily and there’s enough room for him to grow. We took our first flight on Southwest Airlines and the carrier is a little off from what the airline suggests as far as height. However, as mentioned in product features, a little push down on the support bracket and the carrier fits perfectly under the seat in front of you. I can’t recommend this bag highly enough. The bag is constructed very well and comfortable for the pet and owner.
